How to become a PlusOne Pro: what the job is, what it pays, what's required

PlusOne ProSeptember 09, 20261 views

Every time we describe PlusOne Pro, someone says "I'd be great at that." Often they would. Here's what the job is and what it takes to start.

What the work is

Being someone's guest at an event, by the hour. A wedding where they'd otherwise sit alone. A corporate gala. A concert, a game, a dinner. You show up on time, dressed for the room, and you're good company for the length of the booking: you can talk to anyone, you notice when to step forward and when to step back, and you leave when it ends.

It is not dating and it is not adult work. That's not a preference; it's the Acceptable Use Policy, and it protects you as much as anyone. A member who crosses the line loses their account.

What it pays

You set your own hourly rate and choose the kinds of events you'll take. Members pay your rate plus a 15% platform fee on top — founding Pros keep 100% of their rate. Your payout for a booking is released 24 hours after it ends, through Stripe, to the account you connect.

What's required before you can be booked

You need to be 18 or over. You submit a government-issued photo ID and a selfie in the app, and a member of our team reviews it by hand; you can't appear in the catalog or accept a booking until it's approved. You connect payouts, add a trusted contact (someone we can reach if something goes wrong during a booking), upload at least three real photos of yourself, write a short bio, set a rate and pick your event types, and agree to the standards.

What makes a good Pro

Comfort in rooms full of strangers. The ability to read a table. Reliability — a Pro who cancels is worse than no Pro at all. Discretion about the people you meet. And a genuine interest in other people's evenings going well, which is hard to fake for four hours.

Founding Pros

The first 100 Pros on the platform are founding Pros: they keep their full rate for life, even if a Pro-side fee is ever introduced. Founding status is earned, not just claimed — you keep it by completing three bookings within 90 days of finishing setup. Miss that window and the status is forfeited; your account stays active, the founder benefits don't. Details are on the pricing page.

Ready? Start your Pro profile — it takes about ten minutes. ID review is done by a person, and you'll get an email when it's approved.
