How PlusOne Pro checks the people you book

PlusOne ProSeptember 09, 20261 views

People are right to ask what "ID-verified" means before they book a stranger for a wedding. Here is precisely what PlusOne Pro does, in the order it happens, and where the limits are.

Before a Pro can be booked

A Pro submits a photo of a government-issued ID and a selfie through the app. A member of our team reviews the submission by hand and approves or rejects it. Until it's approved, the Pro doesn't appear in the catalog and can't accept a booking, no matter how complete the rest of their profile is.

Every Pro also has to connect payouts (so we know where their money goes), name a trusted contact — someone we can reach if something goes wrong during a booking — and agree to the standards and the Acceptable Use Policy, which rules out anything romantic, sexual or adult.

What we don't do

We don't run criminal background checks today. ID review confirms that the person is who their profile says they are and that they're an adult; it doesn't tell us their history. We'd rather say that plainly than let "verified" imply more than it does.

During the booking

You and the Pro message inside the app, so nobody needs to hand over a phone number before they're comfortable. Members are asked for a trusted contact too, for the same reason Pros are. Your card is authorized when you book and charged only when the Pro accepts.

After the booking

The Pro's payout is released 24 hours after the booking ends. If something went wrong, the Report button on the booking puts it in front of our team, with both people's details and their trusted contacts, while the money is still held. Both sides review each other, and the reviews become visible once both are in, so neither is written in reaction to the other.

What that adds up to

You're booking a real adult whose identity a human has checked, who can't be paid until after the event, who has agreed in writing to the boundaries of the job, and who can be reported to people with the power to act. That's what "ID-verified" means here — nothing more, and nothing less.
